I’ve never been able to stick to my list, when I walk into a bakery. The concoction of invigorating aroma of freshly baked breads, assortment of cakes, cookies and puffs remind me of the happy, festive, Christmas-time atmosphere every time I visit a bakery.
Must-Try Places!
Memories of selecting assorted sweet and savoury baked delicacies from Flurys’ in Park Street Kolkata, Birthday and New Year cake-shopping at Kolkata’s famous Jewish Bakery in New Market’s Nahoum and Sons, snacking on the crispy, melt-in-the-mouth chicken puffs of Great Eastern Bakery in Central Kolkata, having a cup of ginger tea with some Shrewsbury biscuits of Kayani Bakery, in Pune, fill me up with delectable nostalgia. Recently, I discovered that traditional charm of the old bakeries in Mumbai at Gaylords Bakery near Churchgate.
Yummy Comforts
There is something very comforting about a freshly baked, warm muffin or a fluffy, flaky croissant with a cup of strongly brewed black coffee. It was my staple breakfast on my way to work in the chilly mornings of Toronto.
The art of baking is quite an enlivening experience but it is not for everyone. Baking needs a lot of precision. Right from the measurements to the techniques there are no scope for short-cuts. I love to bake when I get the time and it is a sheer joy to have my home fill up with comforting, joyful aroma.
Nevertheless, no worries for the busy-bodies. It is an equally refreshing experience to visit a local bakery and pick up some freshly baked assortment. Do try it sometime. I can guarantee that it would be an enchantingly addictive experience and you will be enraptured in a cheerful Christmas mood every time!
